PROJECT DETAILS

On screen LGBTQ+ characters are often misrepresented, misunderstood and their narratives poorly told. However, there are many differences between the filmmatic portrayal of lesbian and bisexual women compared to their gay male counterparts.

The Great Lesbian Escape explores the cinematic portrayal of lesbians and bisexual women on screen and discusses LB representation, storylines and authenticity

The project comprised of two parts: research and cinema event aimed at supporting producers, script readers, filmmakers and writers in avoiding tropes and creating engaging, truthful and relatable characters and stories.

We hope that through the research and event we can raise awareness of the cinematic/industry situation and encourage filmmakers to explore this area with greater understanding. Links to the research/discussion document below.
